Events & Outings
Keeping track of various car related events and outings...
8/17/2013 - Strassenlage @ The Ridge
What an absolute blast this was.
Second lapping event ever for me, and first time at this track, which is just extremely fun and challenging. Perfect pavement (it's just 2 years old) numerous elevation changes, and a very technical track overall made for an amazing day. I had a great instructor once again who showed me how far a car can actually get pushed!
I got 5 lapping sessions. I studied the track map a ton prior to showing up, and also watched a bunch of YouTube videos, but neither really prepared me for driving on the course myself. It took until the tail end of the third session for me to really be in tune with what I needed to do out there. Turns 1-5 finally clicked as a unit, and 6-10 felt easy. I really wish I could've stayed for the second day, but I'll have to wait until next time.
One concerning event: in the last session I was black flagged because someone thought I was 'smokier' than the other RS4's. I pulled off, and once my instructor and I explained that it was also the only RS4 with a high pressure supoercharger kit on, we were let immediately back on. Still, I'm a bit concerned. Though they said it was black smoke, I noticed I was down oil on my way home. Given that since hydro-locking two of my clyinders via fuel injector failures those two cylinders are down on compression, I'm a bit worried. I'll likely follow-up with them to get some more details, and for now, watch my oil consumption a bit more closely.
Lastly, I forgot my phone mount at the shop, so no video from this one :(

7/12/2013 - Geschwindigkeit @ Pacific Raceways
First time at a road track lapping event, and also did the 1/4 mile the same day. Had an absolute blast through all of it and learned a ton. More info here, videos posted below.
I used Harry's Lap Timer for the overlay data (brilliant little app) while recording video with my phone. The additional data (throttle, rpm, gear) is gathered via the GoPoint BT1 Bluetooth OBD-II dongle that communicates with the phone/app. |
2/2/2013 - University of Quattro Driver Education & Autocross
First Driver Education event I've ever participated in. Had a lot of fun doing slalom, high speed breaking, figure 8's (on wet pavement) and most of all the autocross. Below video of my first run of autocross...happy to say I managed to shave 3-4 seconds off of that by the time I was done.
