Current Wheel & Tire Setup (Updated //10.22.2013)

I love the look of the stock Titanium wheels. After spending many years changing tires onto rims in summer / winter with my B5 S4, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and get a second set of wheels back in 2012. I purchased another set of OEM Ti wheels from ECS Tuning, and wrapped those in Michelin Pilot Super Sports this time in 275/30R19 (after going through another set of 255's), as the couple of road course events had chewed up the prior 255's pretty well, and I wanted to experience the greater contact patch with this size.

I love the difference as you can definitely feel the difference. With that, I also altered my spacer setup for the summers. Complete setup now is:

  • Summer: OEM Ti wheels (new set) with 275/30R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports, and H&R 8mm front hub-centric spacers, and 10mm rear MTM hub-centric spacers
  • Winter: OEM Ti wheels (original set) with 255/35R19 Bridgestone Blizzak LM60, and 10mm MTM hub-centric spacers all around

Tire pressure

Summers: 39 psi front and back for daily driving.
Winters: Forgot :) Will update when I next put them on.

Brake Pads

I'm running separate pads for daily driving and track use.
  • Daily driving I have the EBC Red pads front and back. Nice and quiet for street use.
  • For track use, I use the Carbotech RP2's. Awesome braking with these, but definitely too loud for daily use.

Brake Fluid

Motul 5.1. Not much more to say here, except I flush with two of these bottles once a year given road course events.

Wheel Spacers

Yup, I like 'em wide. I won't use the spacers in road course events, but for daily driving, I love the look and I don't experience any degradation in handling. Now, I think it's very important to get hub-centric spacers. I've experimented with a couple of different sets that weren't (H&R and another small shop that made their own), and each time I would feel vibration right around 60-65mph. Otherwise they were fine.

Then I went with the MTM's (10mm), and wow - although they cost a good bit more, you can tell their quality is above the rest, down to accommodating every little contour of the OEM wheels and hub. I got those from Alex @ Europrice, who - for those that don't know - is awesome in customer service and can get you just about anything. Best action there: send him a mail. The 10 mm worked great, even when lowered, on my 255's, but when it came to adding the 275's, they looked goofy up front, so I went ahead with the 8mm H&R's up front for the summer setup, while keeping the MTM's in the back, and having all 4 on the MTM's with the winter 255 setup.
